OUR SEDONA VACATION

Oh Sedona, you will always have a piece of our hearts.

We don’t usually blog personal travels but SOOO many of you asked if I would so you could see all the details after following along on Insta-stories. So, here we are. Plus, this will be so fun to look back on.

We picked Sedona somewhat randomly. We wanted a warm-ish location in March and a place that had great food and adventuring galore. After asking for recommendations a few people suggested Sedona, AZ. and we went with it! Hiking, wineries, spa like atmosphere and gorgeous views… YEP…sign me up!

There were 8 of us going together so we rented a large house from Airbnb. I would suggest going this route as so many of the motels and hotels looked very blah.

We flew into Pheonix and drove the 2 hours north. You would for sure need a rented car to get around as it’s a MUCH larger area than any of us anticipated.

HIGHLIGHTS were so many but here were some of our favorites:

FOOD: Mariposa Latin Inspired Cafe, Elote Cafe ( no reservations – HUGE line every day – arrive EARLY), The Hudson, Picazzo’s Healthy Italian Pizza, Indian Gardens Cafe and Market, Cucina.

HIKING: Favorite trails were Bear Mountain and Cathedral Rock. Least favorite trail was Devils Bridge. Adam also loved mountain biking for the day.

OTHER: LOVED visiting the local wineries, kayaking on the water to winery tour, and horseback riding!

This was a completely dreamy travel destination. But, for those who like to move and adventure. We really didn’t stop going and exploring. I would most likely not bring my family here until the kids were much older. There were a few small kids hiking but I don’t know if midwest children know how to not fall down a mountain. For real.

Until next time Sedona! Here is mix of both camera photos and so many snaps from my iPhone.

Our Airbnb… search Sedona Sun Up Estate for more info.
Sunrise was breathtaking. But, the one MOON rise we saw over the Sedona mountains… wow. A truly perfect moment in life.
The whole crew. About to go on our first hike.
Bear Mountain Trail. We somehow (won’t name names!) ended up doing the hardest trail in Sedona on our first day. Roughly 5 miles straight up and 5 back down. Luckily it wasn’t super hot that day, it was acutally perfect weather wise. So proud that our entire group make it up. My knees almost didn’t make it back down. But, the views were worth every step of pain.
View from the top. NO photo could do this justice.
We all made it. Barely.
“OK, we took our pic. Now move so we don’t fall and die!”
Mariposa view. This is one of 3 restaurants that celebrity chef Lisa Dahl owns in Sedona. Every bite was better than the next. Sedona food is UNBELIEVABLE. I miss it terribly.
Seven Sacred Pools on Soldiers Pass Trail. SUPER EASY and fun hike.
Chapel of the Holy Cross trail is a quick hike with lots of surrounding trails. Such a beautiful church. I cried. A must see.
The Chapel… way off in the distance.
Cathedral Rock is no joke if you are afraid of heights (ME!!!) Quite steep and you have to go down on all fours. Crab walking skills actually do come in handy.

*We had a crier … me. I was super relieved, and happy, to face my fears and make it to the top 🙂 ONLY the ladies made it. Two men were biking and two were too scared. Not kidding about it being intense.
Couldn’t breathe here. Soooo scared. Refused to look behind me. Just kept going!
Going down was MUCH less scary. At least you could see where you were going to land if you fell. haha!
We rented a huge van. It was one of the best decisions to not have multiple cars.
I have really pretty friends.
SEE! Gorgeous friends. Someone get married in Sedona please! I want to photograph a wedding here.
Water To Wine tour. Kayaking and you end up at a winery. Such a fun day of adventuring.
We were the first group down the river this year. The snow run off was intense and too dangerous before that. Lucky us. We were traveling about 5x faster than usual for them and through a few small rapid sections. Terrifying but such a blast. Definitely something to do in spring when the river is going fast. Unless you like a lazy river.

*We had a crier… no names… not me 🙂
Ended at the winery.
More of my cute friends!
Adam got to bike one day and he was a happy man in his happy place.
Top of the mountain views.
Boys.
Horseback Riding. A MUST do and worth ever penny. Nothing like horseback riding in Wisconsin, or on a beach. We were up and down the mountains and this will make your heart pound. You have to have lots of trust while on these beautiful creatures. Especially rounding those cliff edges.
*We had a crier, again… no names… not me 🙂 Also, we could barely walk once we were done.
